A. Jay Cristol is a Federal Bankruptcy Court Judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Southern District of Florida. He was appointed to the court in 1984. Cristol served as Chief Judge from 1993 to September 1999.[1]


Judge Cristol attended the University of Miami for his Bachelors degree and Juris Doctor.[2]

Military service

Cristol served in the Reserve Judge Advocate Generals Corps for twenty years.[1]


Prior to joining the court, Cristol was an attorney in private practice for twenty-five years.[1]
