Ancer Lee Haggerty is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Haggerty is the Chief Judge of the Court serving as the court's lead judicial administrative officer in conjunction with the Clerk of Court on the court's day to day operations. On August 26, 2009 Haggerty assumed senior status. 
Early life and education
A native of Oregon, Haggerty graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene with his bachelor's degree in 1967 and later graduated from the University of California-Hastings College of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1973. Haggerty also served in the US Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970.
Haggerty began his legal career as a law clerk in the Portland Metropolitan Public Defender's Office in 1973 before becoming a staff attorney with the same organization from 1973 to 1977. Haggerty also served as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Oregon from 1977 to 1988. Haggerty later became as District Court Judge in the Multnomah County District Court from 1989 to 1990 before later becoming a Circuit Court Judge in the Multnomah County Circuit Court from 1990-1993.

Haggerty was nominated by President Bill Clinton on November 19, 1993 to a seat vacated by Owen Panner. Haggerty was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 25, 1994 on a majority voice vote and received commission on March 28, 1994. Haggerty served as the chief judge of the District of Oregon from 2002-2009. He assumed senior status on August 26, 2009.
