Indian cigarette sales (2009)
*City of New York v. GOLDEN FEATHER SMOKE SHOP 597 F. 3d 115
Judge Amon ruled on August 25, 2009 that an Indian reservation could not sell cigarettes tax-free to the general public pending any further court action. The City of New York sued a group of cigarette vendors on the Poospatuck Indian Reservation over the missing tax revenue the untaxed cigarettes bring to New York City. The decision was appealed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 2010.
