Earl S. Hines was a federal magistrate judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas from 1984 to 2011. Hines officially retired on August 1, 2011.[1] His term was set to end in March of 2016 when he retired.[2]

With almost twenty-eight years on the bench, Hines was the longest serving active Texas magistrate judge at the time of his retirement.[1]

Education

Judge Hines received his B.A. degree from the University of Texas in 1965 and his J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1967.[3]

Career

Judge Hines began his career in 1967 as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Joe J. Fisher. He became an Assistant Texas Attorney General in 1969. Hines then worked as a private practice lawyer from 1971 to 1983.[3]
