Irene Keeley is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. She joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush.
Early life and education
A native of New York State, Keeley graduated from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, with her bachelor's degree in 1965 and later graduated from West Virginia University with her Master's degree in 1977 and her juris doctor degree in 1980.
Keeley spent her entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of West Virginia from 1980 to 1992 and also served as a adjunct professor of law at the West Virginia University College of Law from 1990 to 1991.

Keeley was nominated by President George HW. Bush on April 1, 1992 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089 which was approved by Congress. Keeley was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 11, 1992 on a Senate vote and received commission on August 12, 1992. Keeley was the previous Chief Judge of the court as Keeley served as chief judge from 2001 to 2008.
