James Y. Ross is a judge for the Wayne County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. He also has jurisdiction over the Wayne County Juvenile Court. He was first elected in 1998 and is based in Waynesboro. He was most recently re-elected in 2014 for a term that expires on August 31, 2022.
Ross began his career in 1987 as an associate attorney at the firm of Lackey & Ross, Attorneys at Law. He became a partner of that firm in 1990. He also became a Wayne County attorney that year, a position he held until 2000. He worked briefly as a sole practitioner from 1994 to 1995 then, from 1995 to 1997, he was a partner of Gray & Ross. After that, he became a sole practitioner again. He continues to practice in that capacity.
Ross has been serving as a judge part-time since 1998, when was elected to the general sessions and juvenile courts. He also joined the Clifton City Court that year, where he continues to serve. He has also served as judge for the City of Collinwood since 2000.
