Joseph Bianco is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Bianco joined the court in January 2006, after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
Early life and education
Bianco clerked for Federal District Judge Peter Leisure of the Southern District of New York from 1992 to 1993. He worked in private practice in New York from 1993 to 1994 and again from 2003 to 2004. Bianco served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York with the U.S. Attorney's Office from 1994 to 2003. Bianco worked as Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States in the Criminal Prosecutions division of the United States Department of Justice from 2004 to 2005. Bianco also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School, Rosehill Campus from 2002 to 2005.
Eastern District of New York
Bianco was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York by President George W. Bush on July 28, 2005 to fill a seat vacated by Denis Hurley. Bianco was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 21, 2005 and received his commission on January 3, 2006.
Lend America FHA case (2009)

Judge Bianco ruled against a motion filed by the United States Department of Justice to ban Ideal Mortgage Bankers Ltd., operating as Lend America, to originate FHA loans. The Justice Department filed the motion since the mortgage company has a civil lawsuit pending. The company is accused of falsely certifying $14 million in mortgage payments. The decision allowed Lend America to continue to originate loans while the separate lawsuit wass still pended trial.
