Judgepedia presents the State of Mississippi

The structure of the Mississippi judicial system is laid out in Article VI of the state Constitution. The state court system is made up of the Mississippi Supreme Court, the Mississippi Court of Appeals, the Mississippi circuit courts, the Mississippi Chancery Court, the Mississippi county courts, the Mississippi justice courts, the Mississippi youth courts and the Mississippi municipal courts.

The federal court system is made up of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. These federal courts are part of the Fifth Circuit.

Mississippi judicial elections

Judges in Mississippi are selected in non-partisan elections. There are no judicial primaries, but if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the general election, a runoff election is held.

Midterm vacancies are filled by gubernatorial appointment.
