The New York Surrogates' Courts are courts in every county in New York that preside over cases involving the deceased, such as, wills and the administration of estates.[1]

The judges of the surrogate's courts serve terms of 10 years if presiding outside of New York City and 14 years if they are located in New York City. According to the state Constitution, the term is counted "from and including the first day of January next after their election."[2]
