Robert James Conrad, Jr. is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. He joined the court in 2005 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Conrad served as Chief Judge of the court from 2006 to June 2013.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Conrad graduated from Clemson University with his bachelor's degree in 1980 and later from the University of Virginia Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1983.[2]

Professional career

Conrad served as a private practice attorney from 1983 to 1988 before being serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from 1989 to 2001.[2] President George W. Bush nominated Conrad to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from 2001 to 2005.[3]

Judicial career

On the recommendation of North Carolina U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole, Conrad was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina by President George W. Bush on February 14, 2005 to a new seat created by 116 Stat. 1758, which was approved by Congress. Conrad was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 28, 2005 and received commission on June 2, 2005.[4]
