Scott Coogler is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He joined the court in 2003 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.[1]

Education

Coogler graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with both his bachelor's and J.D. degrees in 1981 and 1984, respectively.[1]

Military service

Coogler served as a reservist in the Army National Guard from 1988 to 1991.[1]

Professional career

Coogler started his legal career as a law clerk for former Alabama District Judge Paul Conger before entering into private practice in the State of Alabama from 1984 to 1999. In 1996, Coogler became a judge on Alabama Circuit 6. He served in this position until his appointment to the federal court in 2003. From 2000 to 2003, Coogler also serve as part-time professor at the University of Alabama School of Law.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Alabama

On the unanimous recommendation of Senators Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby, Coogler was nominated by President George W. Bush on March 27, 2003, to a seat vacated by Judge Dean Buttram Jr. as Buttram went on senior status. Coogler was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 22, 2003, and received commission on May 28, 2003.[1]
