Alan Highers

Alan E. Highers is a judge on the Tennessee Court of Appeals. He was appointed to this position on September of 1982 and was elected in August of 1984. He was re-elected in August of 1990, 1998 and 2006.[1] His current term ends in 2014.

Biography

Judge Highers was born on July 5, 1937 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He received his A.A. and LL.D. degrees from Freed-Hardeman University, his B.A. degree from David Lipscomb University, and his J.D. degree from the University of Memphis School of Law. He is now married and has two children.[1]

Legal career

Judge Highers began practicing as a lawyer in 1968. He worked in this capacity until 1973, when became a special judge and referee at the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County. From 1977 until he was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1982, he judged on the Circuit Court in Memphis. He has also lectured at the University of Memphis School of Law (1972) and was involved with the Tennessee Judicial Conference and the National College of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.[1]
