Early life and education
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Covello graduated from Harvard University with his Bachelor's degree in 1954. Cavello later graduated from University of Connecticut School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in 1960. [1]
Military career
Cavello was a U.S. Army Personnel Specialist in the United States Army from 1955 to 1959.[1]
Professional career
Covello was a private practice attorney in the State of Connecticut from 1960 to 1974 and was a Member of the Charter Revision Commission of West Hartford, Connecticut in 1964, serving as its Counsel in 1966 and again from 1969 to 1970. Covello was Counsel for the Office of Corporation Counsel for West Hartford, Connecticut from 1964 to 1967. In 1974, Covello was a Circuit Court Judge in the State of Connecticut from 1974 to 1975 before serving as a Judge in the Connecitcut State Court of Common Pleas from 1975-1978. Covello was a Judge in Connecticut Superior Court from 1978 to 1992 and served in the Appellate Sessions division of the Conneciticut Supreme Court from 1980 to 1983. In 1987, Covello was Justice of the Connecitcut Supreme Court until 1992 when Covello served as Administrative Judge in the Appellate System for the State of Connecticut. [1]
Judicial career
District of Connecticut
Covello was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut by President George H.W. Bush on April 1, 1992 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089, which was approved by Congress. Covello was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 12, 1992 and received commission on August 17, 1992.[2] He assumed senior status on February 4, 2003.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Mark Kravitz.
