Allyne Ross is a federal judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. At the time of appointment, she was a magistrate judge for the district. She assumed senior status on April 5, 2011.[1]

Early life and education

Ross graduated from Wellesley with her Bachelor's degree in 1967 and later graduated from Harvard Law with her J.D. Degree in 1970.[1]

Professional career

Ross began her legal career as a Staff attorney for the Boston Legal Assistant Project from 1970 to 1971 before becoming a Private practice attorney in New York City from 1971 to 1976 before joininf the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York from 1976 to 1986 serving as Assistant U.S. attorney from 1976 to 1983 and as Chief of the Appeals Division representing the Eastern District of New York from 1983 to 1986[1].

Judicial career

Ross began her Federal judicial career as a Federal Magistrate judge. Ross was appointed as a Federal Magistrate judge for the Eastern District of New York. Ross was first appointed in 1986 to a full eight year term and served her whole term until 1994 when she was nominated to an Article III Judgeship.[1]

Eastern District of New York

Ross was nominated by Bill Clinton on July 22, 1994 to a seat vacated by Leo Glasser. Ross was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 28, 1994 and received commission on September 29, 1994.[2] She assumed senior status on April 5, 2011.[1] She was succeeded to this post by Margo Brodie.
