Anthony Ishii

Anthony W. Ishii is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He joined the court in 1997 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Ishii is the Chief Judge of the court serving as the court's lead judicial administrative officer in conjunction with the Clerk of Court in the Court's day to day operations.[1]

Early life and education

A native of California, Ishii graduated from Reedley Junior College with his Bachelor's Degree in 1966 and later earning a Pharmacy Degree at the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy in 1970 along with a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California-Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1973. Legal career

Ishii began his legal career as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Sacramento City Attorney's Office in 1975. After taking a four year hiatus from the legal profession, Ishii returned as a Deputy public defender for the Fresno County Public Defender's Office in 1979 before entering into private practice California, 1979-1983. Ishii began his judicial career as a Justice court judge for the Parlier-Selma Judicial District of California from 1983-1993 before becoming a Municipal Court judge im the Central Valley Municipal Court based in Fresno County from 1994 to 1997. Federal judicial career

On the recommendation of Senators Dianne Feinstien and Barbara Boxer, Ishii was nominated by President Bill Clinton on February 12, 1997 to a seat vacated by Robert Coyle as Coyle assumed senior status. Ishii was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 9, 1997 on a majority voice vote and received commission on November 14, 1997[2]. Ishii has served as the Chief Judge since 2008. [1]
