North Carolina: Yesterday, Governor Bev Perdue appointed F. Warren Hughes to the 24th District Court. He succeeds William A. Leavell III, who in July resigned his seat due to health problems.
Judge Hughes served as Clerk of Court for twenty-seven years in Yancey County prior to his appointment. He also worked in private practice and is a certified mediator.
Because North Carolina appointees must run for the seat in the next general election (more than sixty days following appointment), Hughes must participate in the 2012 election.
