Judge in Arizona are elected in retention elections and the partisan election of judges.
Primary election
In counties with a population of less than 250,000, Superior Court candidates compete in contested primaries. Throughout the state, candidates for the Justice Court participate in primary elections.
General election
- Appellate court judges and Superior Court judges in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties stand for retention.
- Candidates that advanced from the partisan primary also compete in the general election.
