Arlen Beam

Arlen Beam is a Federal Appeals judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Beam is a judge serving on senior status. Beam's duty station is based out of Lincoln, NE.

Early life and education

A native Nebraskan, Beam graduated from University of Nebraska with his Bachelor's Degree in and his juris doctorate degree in 1965. Beam also served as a U.S. Army Captain from 1951 to 1953.

Legal career

Beam spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Nebraska from 1965 to 1982.

Beam was nominated by Ronald Reagan on October 14, 1981 to a seat vacated by Robert Denney as Denny died in judicial service[1]. Beam was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 18, 1981 on a senate vote and received commission on November 18, 1981. Beam served as chief judge of the court from 1986 to 1987 before ending his judgeship on November 9, 1987, due to appointment to Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Beam was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on July 1, 1987 to a seat vacated by Donald Ross as Ross assumed senior status. Beam was confirmed by the Senate on November 6, 1987 unanimous consent of the Senate and received commission on November 9, 1987[2]. Beam later assumed senior status on February 1, 2001.
