Barbara Jackson is a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She was elected to this position in 2004.[1] and her current term ends in 2012[2]

Jackson is running for the seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court currently held by Edward Thomas Brady. [3]

Biography

Judge Jackson was born on December 25, 1961 and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. She received her B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 and her J.D. degree from the same school in 1990. She also studied abroad for a summer at Oxford University in England.[4]

Legal career

Judge Jackson began her legal career in 1990 as a clerk for Burley Mitchell, who was the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. She then worked as Assistant Legal Counsel, and later Associate General Counsel, to Governor Martin. In 1992, she joined the North Carolina Governor’s Advocacy Council for Persons with Disabilities as a Deputy General Counsel. She worked in this capacity until the end of 1996, when she joined the law firm Holt York McDarris & High. She began working as General Counsel to North Carolina's Commissioner of Labor in 2001 and she has judged on the Court of Appeals since 2004. [5]
