Barnes County is within the Southeast Judicial District. The people of Barnes County are served by a District Court and two Municipal Courts.

The United States District Court for the District of North Dakota has jurisdiction in Barnes County. Appeals from the District of North Dakota go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
