Providence, Rhode Island: Judge Haiganush R. Bedrosian was named Chief Judge of the Rhode Island Family Court by Gov. Carcieri on October 28, 2010. Regarding the nomination, Carcieri stated, “Judge Bedrosian has served the Family Court with great dedication. Her peers praise her work not only in what is before the court, but also her attention to how the court functions to serve the people. Her measured and calm approach has been invaluable to her contribution as an associate justice and will serve her well in leading the Family Court.”

Judge Bedrosian was first appointed to the Family Court in 1980. If her nomination is confirmed by the Rhode Island Senate, she will replace former Chief Judge Jeremiah S. Jeremiah, Jr., who retired at the end of June, 2010. Since then, Bedrosian has served as acting Family Court Chief Judge. The Chief Judge position includes administrative responsibilities over 18 judicial officers and approximately 150 other court employees throughout the state.[1]
