Brooks has been a member of the Alabama State Senate since 2006, representing Mobile County. Prior to that, he served on the Mobile City Council for five years. During this time, Brooks also served as a Special Judge on the Mobile County District Court. [2]
2012 election
Brooks defeated Eaton Gaston Barnard in the Republican primary on March 13, winning 67.91% of the vote. He was elected to the court after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3] [4] [5]
As to his decision to run for the Circuit Court, Brooks said:
I made the decision to seek the Judgeship only after many communications from supporters, after prayer, and after much reflection with my family. Further, given my upcoming work on the Insurance Commission it is important to confirm that my role as Senator will absolutely be my first priority until I leave Senate office in 2013. [6]
