Brent E. Dickson was appointed the 100th Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court and took office on January 6, 1986[1], after seventeen years as a general practice and trial lawyer in Lafayette, Indiana. He was retained by the state's voters in retention elections in 1988, 1998 and 2008. His current ten-year term expires in 2018.[2][3]

Legal background

Justice Dickson received his B.S. from Purdue University in 1964 and his Juris Doctor Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis (J.D. 1968).

As a lawyer, he was certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. [2]

Associations

He is co-founder of the Sagamore Chapter of the American Inns of Court in Indianapolis, a member of the American Law Institute, a registered mediator, and active in various national, state, and local judicial and bar organizations. [2]

Academic ties

Justice Dickson also served as an adjunct professor at Indiana University Schools of Law, teaching an evening course in Indiana Constitutional Law for several years. [2]
