Brian Morris is an associate justice of the Montana Supreme Court, a position to which he was elected in the state's non-partisan elections in November of 2004[1]. His eight-year term expires in 2012.[2]

Biography

Justice Morris was born in Butte, Montana in September 5, 1963. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in 1986 and an M.A. in 1987. He then graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1992. [3]

Legal career

Justice Morris began his legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable William H. Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court and for the Honorable John T. Noonan, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. From 1995 through 1999, he worked in private practice in Bozeman. He has also served as a legal assistant at the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal and as a legal officer at the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva, Switzerland, before becoming the Solicitor for the Montana Department of Justice in 2001. He worked in this position until his election to the Montana Supreme Court in November of 2004. [3]

2004 campaign

In his 2004 campaign for the state's high court, Morris ran against district judge Ed McLean for the seat being vacated by James Regnier.[4]
