Bruce D. Black is an Article III federal judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Black served as the Chief judge of the court from 2010 until his transition to senior status on October 1, 2012. Prior to appointment, Black served on the New Mexico Court of Appeals from 1991-1995.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Black is a graduate of Albion College of Michigan with his Bachelor's Degree in 1969 and from Michigan Law School with his Juris Doctor Degree in 1971. [1]

Professional career

Black was a private practice attorney in the State of New Mexico from 1972 to 1991 before being elected Judge to the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 1991. [1]

Judicial career

District of New Mexico

Black was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico by President Bill Clinton on August 10, 1995 to a seat vacated by Juan Burciaga. Black was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 22, 1995 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 26, 1995. [2] Black assumed senior status on October 1, 2012.
