Buell Nesbett

Buell Nesbett (1910-1993) was one of the first justices to serve on the Alaska Supreme Court when it was established in 1959. He served on the court from August 1959 - March 1970, retiring after he was injured in an airplane accident.

Justice Nesbett was named Chief Justice of Alaska's highest court in 1959 by Gov. William A. Egan.

Justice Nesbett was born in New Mexico, earned his law degree from the University of San Francisco in 1940 and won the Bronze Star while serving in the Navy in World War II.

Nesbett practiced law from 1945 to 1959 in Anchorage, and then served as a magistrate in 1946 and 1947 and a bankruptcy court referee from 1948 to 1952.
