C. Thomas Edwards is a superior court judge for the 25A Judicial District of the Seventh Division of the Superior Court, which presides over Burke and Caldwell counties of North Carolina. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Bev Perdue in December 2012 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of former Judge Beverly T. Beal.[1] Edwards is running for re-election to the 25A Judicial District of the Seventh Division of the Superior Court in 2014.[2]

Judicial performance evaluation

In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria, as well as overall performance.[3]

Edwards was re-elected to the 25th Judicial District after running unopposed.[4]

Education

Edwards received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina.[5]

Career

Before his appointment to the court, Edwards served as a district court judge for the 25A Judicial District and the 25B Judicial District from 1999 to 2012.[1]

Public admonishment

On September 17, 2012 the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission issued a Public Reprimand to Judge Edwards.[6]
