Early Life and Education
Born in Syracuse, New York, King graduated from Smith College with her Bachelor's degree in 1959 and later from Yale Law School with her Juris Doctor degree in 1962.[1]
Legal Career
King was a private practice attorney in Texas from 1962 to 1979.[1]
Federal Judicial Career
On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen, King was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President Jimmy Carter on April 30, 1979 to a new seat created by 92 Stat.1629, which was approved by Congress. King was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 12, 1979 on a Senate vote and received commission on July 13, 1979. King served as the Chief Judge of the Court from 1999 to 2006.[1]
Recognition as Jurist
King was the 2006 recipient of the Edward J. Devitt Distinguished Service to Justice Award.
