Early life and education
Judge Honeywell graduated from Howard with her Bachelor's degree in May of 1979 and graduated with her Juris Doctor degree from Florida Law in 1981. [2] While in high school, Honeywell excelled academically while serving as senior class vice president and homecoming queen. [3]
Professional career
After graduating from law school, Honeywell served as a Public Defender in the Leon County Public Defender’s Office from 1982 to 1985 before spending two years as an Assistant Public Defender in the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office. From 1987 to 1994, Honeywell worked as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Tampa Bay. Honeywell spent the years from 1994 to 2000 at the Tampa based law firm of Hill, Ward & Henderson.
Judicial career
Florida Thirteenth Circuit Court
Judge Honeywell served as a Circuit Court Judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida until her elevation to the federal bench. She was nominated to the Thirteenth Circuit by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2000. Honeywell also served a four year term on the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission. [2]
Middle District of Florida
On the recommendation of Florida US Senator Bill Nelson, Hardaway was nominated by President Barack Obama on June 25, 2009 to fill the seat vacated by Susan Bucklew. Ms. Honeywell received a "well qualified" rating from the American Bar Association[4].
Honeywell appeared in a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 9, 2009. After questioning, Ranking Republican Committee Member Senator Jeff Sessions praised her qualifications. On November 9, 2009 she was confirmed by the full Senate with a vote of 88-0. [7] Honeywell received commission on November 12, 2009.
