Charles A. Porter is a senior judge of the Minnesota Fourth Judicial District in Hennepin County, Minnesota. He was appointed to this court in 1982 and was elected to full terms in 1984, 1990, 1996, 2002 and 2008. He retired on August 8, 2011.

Porter assumed senior status on August 9, 2011 and his current term ends on June 30, 2013.[1]

Education

Porter received his B.A. degree from Lawrence University in 1967, his J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1970 and his M.A. degree from the University of St. Thomas in 1985.[1]

Career

Porter began his legal career in 1970 as a U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate. He worked in this position through 1976 and then served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1977 to 2003. Aside from the armed forces, Porter worked as a private practice lawyer from 1974 to 1980, when he was appointed to the Municipal Court. This led to his appointment to the District Court in 1982.[1]
