Charles Canady

Charles T. Canady is an associate justice of the Florida Supreme Court. He was appointed to this position on August 28, 2008 and took office on September 8th of that year.[1] He is subject to a retention election in 2010.[2]

Biography

Justice Canady was born in 1954 in Lakeland, Florida. He received a B.A. degree from Haverford College in 1976 and a J.D. degree from Yale Law School in 1979. He is now married and has two children.[1]

Legal career

Justice Canady began his legal career with the law firm Holland and Knight in 1979. He then joined the firm Len, Trohn, et al. in 1983 and worked in this capacity until 1992. He also served in the Florida House of Representatives from November of 1984 to November of 1990 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from January of 1993 to January of 2001. He then became general counsel to Governor Jeb Bush until November 20, 2002, when he was appointed to the Second District. He joined the Supreme Court in 2008.[1]
