Christopher Nuechterlein is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, a position to which he was appointed on January 10, 2000.[1]
Education
Judge Nuechterlein received his B.A. degree in Political Science from Valparaiso University in 1973 and his law degree from the Valparaiso University Law School in 1976.[1]
Career
Judge Nuechterlein began his career in 1976 as a law clerk to U.S. District judge Allen Sharp. In 1978, he joined the law firm Yoder, Ainlay, Ulmer and Buckingham. He worked with this firm until 1981. From 1983 to 1989, he was a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Criminal and the Environment and Natural Resources Divisions. During this time, he also worked as the Assistant Director of the Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute in 1987 and 1988. From 1989 to 1998, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. He then became an Assistant Commissioner and Chief Counsel of the California Department of Corporations in 1998. He served in this position until his judicial appointment in 2000.[1]
