Clay County is located within the Minnesota Seventh Judicial District and is served by a District Court.

The people of Minnesota are also served by a Tax Court, a Workers' Compensation Court, and various Problem-Solving Courts.

The United States District Court for the District of Minnesota has jurisdiction in Clay County. Appeals from the District of Minnesota go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
