Clayton Greene, Jr. (b. 1951) is a justice on the Maryland Court of Appeals, the state's supreme court. He was appointed to the court on January 7, 2004[1] by Robert Ehrlich, a Republican. He took office on January 22nd of that year and his current term expires in 2016.[2][3]

Biography

Justice Clayton was born in Glen Burnie, Maryland on January 22, 1951. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1973 and his J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1976.[4][5]

Legal career

Justice Greene began his legal career in 1977 as an assistant county solicitor in Anne Arundel County. The next year, he became an assistant public defender in this County. From 1985 to 1988, he worked as a Legal Consultant for the Wiley H. Bates Foundation and a deputy public defender in Ann Arundel County. He left the private practice of law in 1988, when he became an Associate Judge for the District Court of Maryland. In 1990, while working in this position, he became the Administrative Judge for District 7. He was advanced to the Circuit Court, 5th Judicial Circuit in 1995. He joined the Court of Special Appeals in 2002 and the Court of Appeals in 2004.[3][5]
