Conrad Keefe Cyr (b. 1931) is a senior judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on August 4, 1989. At the time of appointment, he served as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He joined that court in 1981 after an appointment from Ronald Reagan. He served on the court through November 20, 1989 and was succeeded by D. Brock Hornby.[1]

Early life and education

Cyr was born in Limestone, Maine. He graduated from Holy Cross College with a B.S. in 1953 and Yale Law School with a J.D. in 1956.[1]

Professional career

After law school, Cyr entered private practice in his home town from 1956-1959. He spent two years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Bangor, ME, before returning to private practice in the same city for two years. He began a career as a bankruptcy judge in 1961 first as a referee for 12 years, then as a special master for 2 years and finally as a bankruptcy judge from 1980-1981.[1]

Judicial career

First Circuit

Cyr was nominated to the First Circuit by President George H.W. Bush on August 4, 1989, to fill the seat vacated by Frank Coffin. Cyr was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 24, 1989, and received commission on November 20, 1989. He assumed senior status on January 31, 1997. His position was filed by Kermit Lipez. [1]

District of Maine

Cyr was the eleventh federal judge in the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He was nominated to the court by President Ronald Reagan on August 11, 1981 to fill the seat vacated by George J. Mitchell The U.S. Senate confirmed him to the Maine district court on September 25, 1981, and he was commissioned on September 28, 1981. He served on the court through November 20, 1989. Cyr was succeeded by D. Brock Hornby.[1]

Bankruptcy court

Cyr was also a United States bankruptcy judge for the District of Maine from 1973-1981.[1]
