The United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky has jurisdiction in Cumberland County. Appeals from the Western District go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Death of former judge Lovelace
The court is currently vacant following the death of Eddie C. Lovelace; Lovelace contracted meningitis during the to the meningitis outbreak in late summer and fall of 2012.[2][3]
