Cynthia Holcomb Hall (1929 - 2011) was a federal appeals judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit based in San Francisco. She joined the court in 1984 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. She served the court until her death on February 26, 2011. [1]
Education
Hall graduated from Stanford University with her Bachelor's Degree in 1951 and from Stanford Law with her Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1954. She later earned her Master of Law degree from NYU Law in 1960. Hall also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Lieutenant in the JAG Corps from 1951 to 1953. [2]

Federal judicial career
Tax Court
Hall served the United States Tax Court as a judge from 1972 to 1981, when she was appointed to another judicial position. [2]
Central District of California
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Hall was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Ronald Reagan on October 14, 1981, to a seat vacated by Harry Pregerson. Hall was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 18, 1981 on a senate vote and received commission on November 18, 1981. Hall left the Central District of California on October 4, 1984, due to her appointment to the Ninth Circuit. [2]
Ninth Circuit
Hall was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on August 1, 1984 to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333 which was approved by Congress. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 3, 1984 on a Senate vote and received commission on October 4, 1984. Hall assumed senior status on August 31, 1997 and continued serving in that capacity until her death in 2011. [2]
