Cynthia J. Newton is a judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. She was elected on November 2, 2004 (effective the following January) to replace retired Judge Thomas Penick, Jr.[1][2] She ran unopposed and was retained in the August 24, 2010 primary to a 6 year term that ends on January 2, 2017.[3][4]

Education

Newton received her undergraduate degree (in Philosophy) from the University of South Carolina and then her law degree from Gonzaga University in 1994.[1]

Legal career

Newton began her legal career at a private law firm in St. Petersburg. After a short time, she left that firm and became an Assistant Public Defender of the 6th Judicial Circuit. She served in that position until she was elected to the Circuit Court in 2004.[1]

2010 election

Newton ran unopposed and was automatically retained to a new term.[3][4]
