Dan Lungren (b.September 22, 1946) is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives and member of the House Judiciary Committee. Lungren represents California's 3rd district based in the Sacramento suburbs.[1]

Early life and education

Lungren graduated from Notre Dame with his Bachelor's degree in 1968. Lungren began his legal education at Southern California before transferring to Georgetown Law Center. In 1971, Lungren graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law[2].

Professional career

Lungren first began his professional career working in the Congress as a staffer to former US Senators Bill Brock and George Murphy while in law school at Georgetown. Lungren later became a co-chair for the Republican National Committee from 1971 to 1972 before moving back to California as a private practice attorney licensed in that state[2]. Lungren continued as practicing Attorney until deciding to run for Congress in 1978

Congressional career

Lungren ran un-successfully for Congress in 1976 and won election in 1978. Lungren was elected the same year when the historic election for Proposition 13 happened[2]. Lungren served six terms in Congress until 1989 in which he was appointed by formerCalifornia Governor George Deukmejian to fill the remainder of Jesse Unruh's term as state treasurer when he died[2].

Congressman Lungren ran again for Congress in 2004 and was elected[3]. Lungren in his second stint in Congress has been re-elected three times with his term expiring in 2010[3].

House Judiciary Committee

In his current tenure in Congress, Lungren was appointed to the House Judiciary Committee in 2007[4]. The Congressman was re-appointed to the committee in 2009[5].

Lungren serves on the House Judiciary Subcommittees on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security and Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law[6] [7].
