Darryl C. Casanueva is the Chief Judge on the Florida Second District Court of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Chiles and has served on this court since February 14, 1998. He was retained by voters in 2000,[1] 2006[2] and 2012.[3] His current term will expire in January of 2019.[4]
His term as chief judge runs from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011. [5]
Education
Darryl Casanueva graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in political science and then went on to receive his law degree from the Loyola University School of Law in 1976. He received his Masters of Law in judicial process degree in 2001 from the University of Virginia. [5]
Legal career
Casanueva began his legal career in 1976 as an Assistant State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Florida. In 1978, he became a private practice attorney and a partner in the law firm Olmsted, Schwarz, Kahle & Casanueva. He was elected to the position of Circuit Court Judge in 1990 and held this position until 1998, when he was appointed to the Court of Appeal. [5]
2012 election
Casanueva was retained on Nov. 6, 2012 with 72.7% of the vote.[6][3][7]
