David A. Hylla is the chief judge of the Third Circuit of Illinois. He serves in Granite City. He was elected to the court on Nov. 7, 2006 and sworn into office the following Dec. 4, 2006. He was retained in 2012 for a term that expires in 2018. He was selected to serve as chief judge of the court in May of 2013, following the resignation of Ann Callis.[1][2][3]

Education

Hylla received his B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University and his J.D. degree (1985) from St. Louis University.[4][5]

Career

Hylla began his career with the law firm of Hopkins and Bilbrey. In 1988, he joined Pratt & Callis, P.C., where he worked as an associate, then partner, until 2000. That year, he rejoined Mike Bilbrey at the firm of Bilbrey & Hylla, P.C. He is also a former attorney for Service Employees International Union Local 98. In 2006, he was elected to the Circuit Court.[5]

2012 election

Hylla was retained on Nov. 6, 2012 with 65.3% of the vote.[6][7]
