David William Dyer (1910-1998) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Judicial career

Southern District of Florida

Dyer was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida by President John F. Kennedy on September 1, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 8, 1961, and received commission on September 18, 1961. From 1962-1966, he served as the chief judge. He served the Southern District of Florida until he was elevated to the Fifth Circuit on September 22, 1966. [1]

Fifth Circuit

Dyer was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on August 16, 1966, to a seat vacated by Warren Leroy Jones; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 25, 1966, and received commission the next day. He assumed senior status on September 30, 1976. He served the Fifth Circuit until he was reappointed to the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981. [1]

Eleventh Circuit

Dyer was reassigned to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981. He served the court until his death on June 7, 1998. [1]
