David Godbey is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

Early life and education

Born in Temple, Texas, Godbey graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor's Degree in 1978 and later from Harvard Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1982.[1]

Professional career

Godbey was a law clerk for Federal Appeals Judge Irving Goldberg, in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans from 1982 to 1983. From 1983 to 1994, Godbey was a private practice attorney in the State of Texas. In 1994, Godbey became a District Court Judge for the 160th District Court of Texas in Dallas from 1994 to 2002.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Texas

On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senators Kay Bailey-Hutchinson and Phil Gramm, Godbey was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002 to a seat vacated by Robert Maloney as Maloney assumed senior status. Godbey was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 1, 2002 on a Senate vote and received commission on August 2, 2002.[2]

Sanford condo case

Judge Godbey is presiding in the case of Allen Stanford's daughter, Randi Stanford[3].

Stanford's daughter is accused of contempt of court for residing in the property after federal authorities seized the property to repay fraud victims[3].

Attorneys for Stanford's daughter deny the claims awaiting a decision from the judge[3].
