District of Rhode Island
Barnes was nominated by President Thomas Jefferson on January 6, 1802. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 26, 1802, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on November 3, 1812. Barnes was succeeded in this position by David Howell.[1]
