David Lynn Russell is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Russell was originally a reserve judge for the Districts of Eastern Oklahoma and Northern Oklahoma. Prior to appointment, Russel was a U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.[1]

Early life and education

A native Oklahoman, Russell graduated from Oklahoma Baptist with his Bachelor's Degree in 1963 and from Oklahoma Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1965. Russell served in the US Navy JAG Corps from 1965 to 1971 in which he served from 1965 to 1968 on active duty during the Vietnam Conflict with the rest served on reserve duty. [1]

Judicial career

Western District of Oklahoma

On the recommendation of Senator Don Nickles, Russell was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on December 4, 1981 as a federal judge for the Western District of Oklahoma and a reserve judge for the Eastern and Northern Districts of Oklahoma. Russell replaced Frederick Daugherty who went on senior status. Russell was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 16, 1981 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 17, 1981. Russell's service to the Eastern and Northern Districts were terminated on December 1, 1990 due to realignment in the State of Oklahoma. Russell served as the Chief Judge of the Western District of Oklahoma, working with the Clerk of Court on administrative matters from 1994 to 2001. [1]
