Dean Whipple is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.[1] He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
Early life and education
Whipple graduated from Drury College with his Bachelor's Degree in 1961 and later graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law with his juris doctorate degre in 1965[1]
Professional career
Whipple started his legal career as a Private practice attorney in the State of Missouri from 1967 to 1974 and in addition served as a part-time prosecuting attorney for Laclede County from 1967 to 1971. In 1975, Whipple was appointed Circuit Court Judge for the 26th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri from 1975 to 1987 under the Missouri Plan[1]
Judicial career
Western District of Missouri
On the recommendation of Missouri U.S. Senator John Danforth, Dean Whipple was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on September 14, 1987 to a seat vacated by Ross Roberts as Roberts died while in judicial service as an Article III judge[2]. Whipple was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 8, 1987 on unanimous consent of the Senate and received commission on December 8, 1987[2]. Whipple served as the chief judge of the Western District of Missouri from 2000 to 2007 before assuming senior status on April 30, 2007[1]. Whipple was succeeded in this position by David Kays.
