Judge Banks worked as a private practice lawyer in Mobile, Alabama from 1977 until 1998. He also served as a Municipal Judge in Citronelle (1980-1997) and Bayou La Batre (1989-1990). From 1983 to 1989, he was a City Prosecutor for Bayou La Batre. He has also worked as an adjunct Professor of Business Law at the University of Alabama since 1978.
Judge Banks served in the Alabama Army National Guard from 1971 to 2001. He was a Command Judge Advocate from 1981 to 1997. He also served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1990 to 1991 and was awarded a Bronze Medal for his service.
Banks was re-elected after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.
