Donald Johnston

Donald Johnston III is a Michigan circuit court judge.
Education
Judge Johnston obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Virginia, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. Thereafter, he attended Wayne State University Law School, from which he obtained his Juris Doctor degree, Cum Laude and with Silver Key, in 1969.
Legal career
After law school, Judge Johnston took a position with the Kent County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he worked his way up from law clerk to Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. On February 19, 1979, he was appointed Judge of the 61st District Court in Grand Rapids by Governor William G. Milliken, and was subsequently elected to six year terms on that Court in 1980 and 1986. His colleagues on the Court elected him Chief Judge Pro Tempore in 1979, and Chief Judge in 1981, 1982-3, 1984-5, 1986-7 and 1988-9. In 1988, Judge Johnston was elected Judge of the Kent County Circuit Court.[1]
