Donald C. Nugent is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.
Early life and education
An native of Minnesota, Nugent graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati with his Bachelor's Degree in 1970, and later graduated with his juris doctorate degree from the Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1974 and graduated from the University of Nevada-Reno's National Judicial College with his Master of Judicial Studies Degree in 1994. After graduating from Xavier in 1970, Nugent served in the US Marine Corps until 1971. [1]
Professional career
After law school, Nugent served nine years as a Private practice in the Metro Cleveland Area from 1974 to 1985, also during the same time frame he was also a part-time Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cuyahoga County. In 1985, Nugent was elected judge for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas from 1985 to 1992 before being elected Judge in the Eighth District Ohio District Courts of Appeal from 1993 to 1995. Judicial career
Northern District of Ohio
On the recommendation of Senator John Glenn, Nugent was nominated by President Bill Clinton on April 27, 1995, to a seat vacated by Thomas Lambros as Lambros retired from Federal Judicial Service. Nugent was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 30, 1995 and received commission on June 30, 1995. [1]
