Early life and education
Born in Puerto Rico, Irzarry graduated from Yale with her Bachelor's Degree in 1976 and later graduated from Columbia Law with her J.D. Degree in 1979.[1]
Professional career
Irzarry began her career as a Assistant district attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney's Office from 1979 to 1981 before being promoted to Special Narcotics Prosecutor in Bronx County from 1981 to 1987 before moving to New York City as Assistant district attorney as a Special Narcotics Prosecutor from 1987 to 1995 before serving two years as Judge of the New York City Criminal Court from 1995 to 1997. Irzarry later became an Acting justice in the Kings County Supreme Court in the Court of Claims from 1997 to 1998 before moving to New York City in the same capacity from 1998 to 2002 before spending two years as a private practice attorney in New York City from 2002-2004[1].
Judicial career
Eastern District of New York
Irzarry was nominated by George W. Bush on April 28, 2003 to a seat vacated by Reena Raggi as Raggi was nominated to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Irzarry was confirmed by the Senate on June 24, 2004 on a Senate vote and received commission on July 8, 2004[2].
